DANZIGER: Toward national service

Private equity, investment banking and consulting can wait; enlist in the military, apply for a teaching fellowship or join the Peace Corps.

DANZIGER: Yale, keep hot lunch

If the University truly values the sense of community it promotes, they should invest in strengthening it — not slowly undermining college dining to save money. If Yale can afford to keep hot lunch, it should.

DANZIGER: Keep student politics out of policing

The YCC’s proposed board is reckless, performative and completely detached from the realities of law enforcement work, effectively handcuffing trained professionals while giving imaginary authority to unqualified students.

DANZIGER: Have more kids

Birth rates have declined in the United States for a number of reasons: the high cost of raising children, delayed marriage and child-bearing, housing affordability costs and changing societal norms. At the center of this crisis is a simple fact: it’s too expensive for many to have many kids.

DANZIGER: On trust and truth

So I reach the central tension — America faces a culture steeped in distrust and misinformation, where dishonesty is often justified by appeals to ideology. This erosion of trust has weakened the authority of our central institutions. The path forward demands an answer to a profound challenge: how can we rebuild integrity and restore confidence?

DANZIGER: Don’t shoot freedom in the foot

So, as you consider the Sumud Coalition’s new divestment referendum I ask you, dear reader: are you with those fighting authoritarianism, or against them?

DANZIGER: War is coming

Sometimes reality hits hard in the face. American students feel safe in our universities thousands of miles from conflict because disorder hasn’t hit us like it hit the Ukrainians in 2022 and the Israelis on Oct. 7. Yale and its peer institutions must wake up and ask themselves now how they can contribute to national security and preparedness. Now is the time for students and faculty to depart from idealistic anti-military dreams, and begin out-researching and out-innovating our competitors abroad. This is not fear mongering. It is a matter of national security and Yale can help — lest America squander it's time to catch up.
